True blue through and through

This week the things that inspired me most about my entrepreneurial class was a talk by Sherri Dew, titled, " True blue, through and through ."  This talk was given originally as a BYUI devotional in March 2004.  Sherri Dew talks about integrity and how it is a virtue that will make you or break you.  I absolutely agree.  Integrity in all phases of life is so important.  We have to trust our husband or wife to make a successful marriage, they have to trust us.  In a business relationship a customer trusts the maker of the product, that it will work as advertised and be worth the investment.  Even in our communities, we trust that people will drive safely, keep the laws of the land and pay their taxes.  Without trust our world wouldn't function.  I particularly enjoyed the story she told of growing up in Kansas and driving the fully loaded grain truck.  She had one stop sign to stop at, but Kansas is very flat, and you can see in every di...

"...it would be a shame to wander aimlessly through a journey we will all only take once." Jeff Sandefer

This week as I read the Stars & Steppingstones reading I was so struck by the ringing truth that seemed to reverberate in my heart.  Jeff Sandefer said some really obvious things that grabbed me and made me want to spend the time thinking about what I want to do with my life.  I have always had so many interests and it has seemed so hard to pin down just one thing to focus on.  I loved his quote, "After all, it would be a shame to wander aimlessly through a journey we will all take only once."  I feel like this quote reflects my life, and not in a positive way.  Sometimes I feel I procrastinate diligently putting in the work necessary to determine a direction for my career only to continue aimlessly wandering around waiting for it to magically happen.  This is part of the reason I decided to come back to finish my degree.  Education is a positive direction and finishing my degree will help me whatever I do.  I still haven't decided what to foc...

An Entrepreneurial Hero?

I am currently taking an Introduction to Entrepreneurship class from BYUI.  As I have been reading the articles for this week, I was most impressed with an article written by Jeff Sandefer.  What on earth is an Entrepreneurial Hero? When I read his paper I was so pleasantly surprised.  I took a personality and interest test for one of my past classes and my interests lie with helping people, leading, etc.  As I read his paper, I loved some of the conclusions he came to.  Especially the three questions he asked, "Did I accomplish something meaningful? Was I a good person? and Who did I love and who loved me?"  These questions came toward the end of their careers, but I can see how these questions would be a good measuring tool to help us along our way.  A good measuring stick to see how things are going, to evaluate our progress and make sure we are living a life we can feel good about.  I am excited to focus on my interests and try to understand w...
