Hosting vs. Hiding
So this week I wanted to hide in my laundry or at the very least, hold it in front of me and look through the arm hole... We have talked about my fear and my laundry and this week the collision was real. As I researched choosing a host for my website it all became real. We just turned in our first Project which was a big idea generating series of spreadsheets and the use of keyword searches in Google Ads. It was a really good exercise to help me understand my options and evaluate what I am hoping to accomplish. So as eye opening and invigorating as it was to see my possibilities laid out before me, searching for a host made me want to hide.
Part of it is the reality of moving forward, of jumping into the deep waters and learning by experience. As I looked at the many host options and saw how wide open the options are I realized that I need help. I need not only support for my website, but I need a builder. I don't know what I want it to look like, I need inspiration or templates I can use to drag and drop. As I weighed the options and packages I found online, I realized that for a little more money I could have what looks to be a really complete hosting site in Wix. I will build my site with them, sign up for one year paying $18/mo and a $25 investment in google ads which will give me $75 free and $100 both for Bing and Local listing advertising. This should be plenty.
My plan is to start a blog about machine embroidery. I will sign up to be an affiliate with Anita Goodesign (an embroidery design company) and will work on small projects on my machine. Showcasing the work in the blogs and helping others learn and gain interest in this wonderful hobby and hopefully bringing business to Anita Goodesign along the way. Competition is high, Interest is high, I may decide to sell things in the future...but for now I will start the blog with Wix.
